4th of July Orinda Parade

On July 4th from 9 to 11:30am: It’s the Orinda 4th of July Parade! Being part of the St. Stephen’s float is the most fun you’ll have all summer! At 9am, meet us in the Orinda BART East parking lot and find a seat on St. Stephen’s flatbed float. Parade starts at 10am and ends around 11:30am. Walk or ride, wave and hand out candy and show St Stephen’s spirit! Sign up on the clipboards in the Narthex and Parish Hall or reply to the RSVP in your email inbox.

Put your bags of individually-wrapped candies in the blue tubs in the Narthex. We’ll pass them out to spectators as we walk or ride along the parade route. Help us by donating early and often!

Parish Town Hall July 10th on Zoom

Feedback after the Annual Meeting suggested parishioners would appreciate a mid-year update. To that end, we invite you to attend our Parish Town Hall. It will be an online-only meeting on Zoom, Wednesday July 10 at 7:30PM.

At the meeting, we will review the various repairs and upgrades to our Buildings and Grounds. We will also be sharing the 1, 3, and 5-year goals which the Vestry adopted to guide our congregation. The meeting will be recorded and shared with parishioners for those who can not attend.

Backpack Drive - Until July 14th!

There’s still time for YOU to help our local students succeed in school! On July 14 at 9am St. Stephen’s will welcome a speaker from Sydney Paige Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to providing high-quality backpacks and school supplies to students in need. Thanks to your generosity this year we’ll be packing school supplies for over 250 underserved kids at Mt Diablo Unified School District. It’s not too late to get involved:

MAKE A DONATION by check or online through St Stephen’s, noting Backpack Project, or

DONATE A NEW, EMPTY BACKPACK: Bring to church on or before July 14:

  • Kids’ style bags, especially colorful patterns.

  • Teens’ bags: sturdy, full sized backpacks.

Parish Life is supplying a bountiful Backpack Party Coffee Hour, and our own Scout Troop 303 will be here to help. All the supplies and instructions will be provided. You can help fill all those bags and the scouts will load ‘em up for delivery to Mt Diablo Unified School District. Thank You!

We’re headed to our Summer Era!

We might be headed for warmer weather, but St. Stephen’s isn’t slowing down! We have a great calendar of summer events, and we hope to see you at as many as possible!

Looking for a volunteer to help Drive

Beginning Sunday, June 16th Lucy Shin needs a ride to and from St. Stephen’s during the summer for the 9am service. She lives in the Monteverde Senior Apartments on 2 Irwin Way in Orinda across from the Orinda Community Church.  Ordinarily a friend who lives in the same building brings her to church, and Susan and Chuck Muenchow take her home after coffee hour.  But neither her friend nor the Muenchow’s can do this over the summer. Lucy, who became blind as an adult, is a lively, cheerful woman for whom the Sunday church service is the highlight of her week.  Every Sunday she waits patiently at the front door for her ride, and there is convenient parking in front of the building.  If you can arrange to provide rides for Lucy even for a portion of the summer, please contact Lyn Houssami at the church office.  If you have questions re: what is involved, please email Susan Muenchow, Whoever helps will be treated to a Korean barbecue in the fall!
