WEDNESDAY BIBLE STUDY: Wisdom and Epiphany
Remaining Wednesdays: January 31 and Feb 7  |  6pm to 8.30

The word “Epiphany” means something like “showing forth,” and in Church tradition, the Feast of the Epiphany is associated with the arrival of the magi in Bethlehem. Following a mysterious star, the magi travel a great distance to discover the Wisdom of God in the newborn Jesus. The magi are considered wise because they recognize what God is doing in Jesus. The powers of the world, who claim wisdom, miss the point, or seek to quench the light of God coming into the world. Therefore Epiphany is a season of seeking Holy Wisdom, and trying to comprehend and understand where God may be found, and honor and recognize what God is doing in the world.
For four weeks we will explore the Biblical Wisdom tradition by reading texts from Scripture that address Holy Wisdom, alongside sources from tradition (including hymns and readings for Epiphany, among other things). Adults gather at 6pm for a shared meal and to discuss and reflect on scripture and tradition. Everyone is welcome. Childcare (including homework club) is provided for families with children. Make time in your life to deepen your appreciation for God’s word in scripture.

St Stephen’s clergy and lay leadership work in partnership to offer pastoral care, to share in the ministry of intercessory prayer, to bring Holy Communion to those who cannot be with us on Sundays, and to provide companionship to the homebound and hospitalized. Please contact Rev Jane Stratford to learn how you can participate in any of these vital ministries: jane@ststephensorinda.or

Our Outreach Committee plans activities and opportunities for the congregation of St Stephen’s to be in service to the world around us, and to build relationships with the people we serve. See the reverse of this page for our current effort, and visit our website to see what’s coming up:
