Reading Corner

The St. Stephen’s Night Readers

Our next meeting is coming up, Monday, May 4 at 7pm at Cal & Kathy Tucker’s, and the book is Book of Strange New Things, by Michael Faber. The premise of this science fiction book is intriguing: a Christian missionary travels to another planet to work with the native population, while receiving updates from his wife about the increasingly apocalyptic conditions back home on earth. The book interweaves the story of Peter’s missionary work among aliens with the story of his strained relationship with his wife, which suffers from the vast distance between them and the enormous difference in their circumstances.  Discussion lead by Peter Margen.   If you do not receive the book club email, contact Sue to get the list of discussion questions. All are Welcome!   Contact Sue Breedlove  or  254-6262 with questions.

St. Stephen’s Book Club

The next meeting is Tuesday, April 28 at 10:00a.m. in the Parish Hall.  The book is  109 EAST PALACE by Jennet Conant. About Robert Oppenheimer and the secret city of Los Alamos. Less about the science of building the bomb, this book brings to life the colorful, eccentric town of thousands that sprang up on a New Mexico mesa.
Reviewer & Discussion Leader: Juan Kelly.
